What is the difference between types of firewood?

Firewood is considered a Wood fuel (or fuelwood) which is a fuel such as firewood, charcoal, chips, sheets, pellets, and sawdust. The particular form used depends upon factors such as source, quantity, quality and application.

These types of Wood fuels, firewood, is rated in British thermal units (BTUs), which is a measure of the quantity of heat, defined since 1956 as approximately equal to 1,055 joules, or 252 gram calories. It was defined formerly as the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water 1° F.

So with some quick research we can quickly discover the BTU Rating of our Firewood Products:

#'s in millions of BTU's

20.1 - Incense Cedar

21.7 - Ponderosa Pine

22.3 - Lodgepole Pine

26.4 - Western Juniper

26.7 - Douglas Fir (Best Seller)

28.0 - Oregon White Oak

*Many factors determine final BTU output such as moisture content, size of firewood pieces being burned, and the size of the stove and/or fireplace used for burning.
